FOR THE FIRST TIME IN HISTORY OF MOSCOW METRO QUARTZ AGGLOMERATE IS USED AS FINISHING MATERIAL IN SOUTHERN SECTION OF BIG CIRCLE LINE

For the first time in the history of Moscow metro quartz agglomerate is used as a finishing material in the southern section of the big circle line. The section was designed and engineered by Mospromproekt, the company which forms a part of the so named Group of companies.

“Unlike any natural stone, agglomerate has higher durability as it doesn’t contain vugs. According to data obtained from a set of experiments, impingement attack doesn’t cause any cracks. It is a very resistant material, which can be compared with volcanic rocks”, – noted Andrey Bochkarev, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Planning and Construction.

The southern section of the Big Circle Line became a pilot project on using quartz agglomerate as stations finishing material. The design solution was suggested by The Group of companies Mosproekt-3.

“Agglomerate is a modern material featured by high durability. For an architect, quartz agglomerate provides a wide range of possibilities to select any color solution: the material is artificially created, so you can choose any color. At Vorontsovskaya Station we used agglomerate of intense orange color to color-code transfer to Kaluzhsko-Rizhaskaya Line. For the next stations – Zyuzino Station and Novatorskaya Station, we also picked bright colors – yellow and terracotta”, – said Anna Merkulova, CEO of The Group of companies Mosproekt-3.

The southern section of the Big Circle Line consists of three stations: Novatorskaya, Vorontsovskaya and Zyuzino Station. These three stations will have been completed by the end of 2021. The new stations will significantly improve the transport service in Zyuzino, Konkovo, Obruchevsky, Prospekt Vernandskogo and Cheremushki District.
