NORTH ALTERNATE ROUTE OF KUTUZOVSKY PROSPEKT IS PLANNED TO BE CONSTRUCTED BY 2023

According to Andrey Bochkarev, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Planning and Construction,North Alternate route of Kutuzovsky Prospekt is planned to be open by 2023.  The main route and intersections with Moscow Circle Automobile Road (MKAD) and the Third Circle Road are currently under construction. “Mosproekt-3”, the company which forms a part of the so named Group of Companies, is the General Designer of the new outbound highway.

A year ago Moscow City Architecture Committee approved of the project of North Alternate route of Kutuzovsky Prospekt that lies entirely along the Smolensky suburban railway lines and via the bridge over the Moskva river and is going to be connected with the “City” and Presnenskaya Naberezhnaya.

“The construction is funded by private investments, it is a commercial project. Moscow government is assisting with making the way to the construction site. It is a very large-scale project – a new 10 km long three-lane highway (in both directions). Only 6,5 km are ground sections, other sections were designed as the overpasses, since the route has intersections with industrial zones and railway lines”, – said Andrey Bochkarev, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Planning and Construction.

Andrei Bochkarev clarified that North Alternate route of Kutuzovsky Prospekt is located too close to Smolensky Suburban Railway Line, so it was impossible to apply the classical incremental launching method during the construction of the new highway interchange at the intersection with the North-Western Chord. The Group of companies Mosproekt-3 faced the challenge and came up with a complex technical solution.

“The engineering structures have complex geometry, as they are constructed at an acute angle to the railway lines. Due to the lack of space caused by dense railway infrastructure, we had no opportunity to construct a span within the right of way and then apply the incremental launching method. The final technical solution implies the construction of an engineering structure next to the railway lines and then bringing it into the final position by transverse launching method. This method requires a wide range of mechanisms and coherence among different specialists being involved in the construction process”, – highlighted Anna Merkulova, CEO of The Group of companies Mosproekt-3.
