NORTH ALTERNATE ROUTE OF KUTUZOVSKY PROSPEKT IS GOING TO OPEN BY 2023

North Alternate Route of Kutuzovsky Prospekt is planned to be open by 2023.  Main route and intersections with Moscow Circle Automobile Road (MKAD) and the Third Transport Circle are currently under construction. “Mosproekt-3”, the company which forms a part of the so named Group of companies, is the General Designer of the new outbound highway.

“The construction is funded by private investments, it is a commercial project. Moscow government is assisting with making way for a construction site, coordination of departments and units involved, which can influence the construction process. It is a very large-scale project – a new 10 km long three-lane highway (in both directions). Only 6,5 km are surface sections, other sections were designed as overpasses, as the route has intersections with industrial zones and railway lines”, – said Andrey Bochkarev, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Urban Planning and Construction.

North Alternate Route of Kutuzovsky Prospekt is located too close to Smolensky Suburban Railway Line, so it was impossible to use classic incremental launching method during the construction of the new highway interchange at the intersection with the North-Western Chord. The Group of companies Mosproekt-3 met the challenge and came up with a complex technical solution.

“The artificial structures have complex geometry, as they are constructed at an acute angle to railway lines. Because of the lack of space caused by dense railway infrastructure, we had no opportunity to construct a span within the right of way and then apply incremental launching method. Final technical solution implies the construction of an artificial structure next to railway lines and then bringing it into a final position by transverse launching method. This method requires a wide range of mechanisms and coherence among different specialists being involved in the construction process”, – highlighted Anna Merkulova, CEO of The Group of companies Mosproekt-3.
